Antofagasta is one of Chile’s largest cities and busiest ports. Antofagasta provides an ocean gateway to the world for exports of copper and other minerals. Visitors to the city will find a number of attractions, most of which offer insight into Antofagasta’s rich and colorful historic past. Its important historic past is reflected in the splendid national monuments that it possesses. Amongst them is the Barrio Histórico, where the Muelle Salitrero (the nitrates dock), the former Maritime Authority building and the former Customs House are located.
