Day 1: Cusco – City tour and archaeological park
Arrival in the city of Cusco. You will receive assistance and be transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a fascinating tour that allows you to admire the pre-Hispanic and colonial heritage of the city of Cusco. Begin with a visit to Koricancha, the ancient Temple of the Sun dedicated to the Inca god Inti, upon which the current Convent of Santo Domingo was built. Then, marvel at the beauty of Cusco’s Main Square, where we will visit the Cathedral, one of the most important colonial gems of the city, featuring beautiful altars, Cusco School paintings, and intricate wood carvings.
You will continue exploring the surroundings of the city, starting with the impressive Sacsayhuamán Fortress, located on the outskirts of Cusco, famous for its enormous, perfectly fitted stone blocks. You’ll also visit Qenqo, a ceremonial Inca site with carved stone labyrinths and channels believed to have been used for rituals and mummification; Puka Pukará, an ancient military watchpoint; and finally, Tambomachay, known as the “Inca Baths,” famous for its water canals and fountains, possibly used for water worship.
